Daniel Shrader

Daniel grew up attending small and mostly dysfunctional churches. As a physics major in college, he was wrestling with life's biggest questions: Where did we come from? Is there a God? Does he care about us? Why is the church so full of hypocrites? He found the answers he was looking for in the Bible, and gave his life to helping others understand the same amazing truths that gave him peace. He graduated from East Carolina University with BS in Physics, and moved to Russia is Cru to share the good news of Jesus with college students.

After a couple of years in Russia, he met his wife Meredith, who was serving on a two month summer mission trip.  They have been married 10 years and have two beautiful children - Lily, age 6 and Hosea, age 3.

Daniel graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in May of 2010 with an M.Div. in Christian Ministry. Since then his mission has been to equip and mobilize churches and church leaders to bring life back to dying and dysfunctional churches like the ones he grew up in. He's excited about the work the Lord is doing at West Hills!

Gene Hurdt

Gene was one of the first children in the congregation at West Hills Baptist Church, when the church was planted in 1961. After growing up in the church, he went off to Carson Newman University where he received a B.S. in Business Administration with a double major in Accounting and Religion. Gene then went on to receive a Masters in Religious Education from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He came home to Jonesborough and has served faithfully ever since. Gene has served as a deacon, as the church treasurer, trustee, and currently serves as an elder. He teaches Sunday school, assists with providing pastoral care, and helps to guide the church.  Gene is excited to hear children laughing in the church again and seeing the Lord Jesus Christ work in the life of His church, West Hills!

Gene loves history, especially the history of Washington County and Tennessee. After meeting the requirements of the Tennessee Archives Institute, Gene was certified as an Archives Manager by the Tennessee Secretary of State. Outside of church he's actively involved with the Washington County Archives, Jonesborough Genealogical Society and the Washington County- Jonesborough Library.
